Hello Everyone!
So after a few days in Taupo we joined our new bus on the way to River Valley. On the way we stopped off for a walk in the Tongariro National Park… near the active volcano of Mount Ngauruhoe (or Mount Tongariro)known to all of 'The Lord of the Rings' geeks as Mount Doom! The walk was beautiful and we stopped at the foot of a waterfall for our lunch, Ben being Ben decided to climb behind the waterfall, I liked being dry so I just stood and watched. It was a lovely clear day and the scenery was beautiful the walk took a couple of hours and was a nice start to the day.
Back on the bus we stopped off quickly to get $2 ice creams from a little stall they were huge and had loads of flavor's, of course I had the most chocolately one hehe.
Our accommodation for the night was river valley lodge and it was literally in the middle of nowhere! The bus couldn't even get down to the lodge as it was too steep into the valley so we had to walk down. The lodge itself was lovely but very remote - no internet or phone signal. The outside toilets and open showers were very simple but it had beautiful surroundings. Everyone from the bus had a roast that night which was nice but still nothing compares to a good Sunday roast back home. After a good feed we relaxed in the lodge and had a nice chilled out evening with all the bugs and huge moths!
The next day some people from the bus went white water rafting however this wasn't our cup of tea so we relaxed in the lodge, Ben went over the river on a pulley type contraption and we waited for the others to return however the lodge had no power that day so most people just caught up on their diaries or practiced their Frisbee skills.
At last it was time to leave and everyone had to walk up the very steep hill out of the valley and back onto the bus to step back into the modern world and off to Wellington.
From River Valley with love
Nikki and Ben xxx
