Nikki's World Travels
Hello!!!
Firstly i havent put any pics on for a while as it takes time to upload them and i always forget to bring the lead out with me but ill try and remember tomo.
So woohoo im now in australia. Had a flight into cairns via darwin and whilst i was in baggage claim i met another british girl, vicky, who ive been hanging out with so far here in cairns. Stayin in International Backpackers and i thought that it was great but a load of people were like why the hell are u staying there as they think its crap. But i was like ive been in asia for past 3 months the fact that this hostel has toilet paper, hot showers was enough for me to be impressed!!
For the first couple of days we just checked out the area and chilled, watched a fire show with kids doing tricks with fire poi's and fire sticks. Made me think that i should actual try and learn how to use my normal poi's better!
We booked on to a 3 day 2 night live aboard on the great barrier reef and i did my advanced diving course so i can now go to 30m! Had a fab 3 days, the food was awesome and met a really good bunch of people. I saw some turtle, sharks and loads of pretty lil fish. The reef is is amazing and so beautiful. Here in oz they really encourage you to go off in your buddy groups without any instructors or dive masters. To begin with the thought of this scared me s***less but now im really glad they do this as feel really comfortable to go off in a buddy pair and have a look for myself. Also, its a real confidence builder underwater. However, me and vicky did get attacked by a mother f***er trigger fish! We were told to be aware of them and the first few we saw we avoided but all of a sudden this trigger came from nowhere so there is me and vicky swimming on our backs with fins up infront kicking this bloody thing away from us. Its ok to kick these things - we were told thats the only way of gettin rid of them. So this thing came at vicky then at me then at her again. It was q scary at the time and we both prob used the majority of our air just gettin away from the bloody thing. But now i can look back and laugh as it was q amusing! I also did a fantastic display to the whole of the boat by slipping down the stairs and cutting 3 of my fingers - i know how to make a great first impression to people!!
Got back yesterday and we did have a cape tribulation trip booked for today but we swiftly changed that when everyone form the boat decided to go out on the piss. So went out last night 0- had a really good time and was q drunk - we did some jaegar bombs which is a shot of some sort of liquor then u place the shot glass into a glass of red bull then down it. It actually tasted q nice so no ali before you ask i didnt not throw it up!
So today i have a slight head ache and im still swaying from being on the boat. Tomo we are prob gonna hire a car and drive down to the water cascades with some people we met on the live aboard so that should be fun. Then have the cape trib trip booked for thursday. Anyway the weather is beautiful outside so off to top up my tan!! Hope its not too cold in the UK for you all!
love nikki

Ok update on the cairns stuff!
So we went to see Wolf Creek at the cinema. Now those of you who dont know about this film its based on a true story bout 2 brit backpackers who went missin in the outback now this was a great first film for me to see in australia you know with all that blood and violence and that long stretch of open road wtih nobody around - yay great one - thanks george for picking that one!!!! Now me - i wanted to see a comedy but nnnooooooo - so there's me havin images and flash backs which is amazing since i hardly saw any of the images due to the fact that i had my eyes closed and my fingers stuffed as far into my ears as possible!! So warning to anyone coming to oz do not under any circumstance watch this movie!!
So we hired the car and i got to drive for a bit which was fun after 3 months of not driving - im lucky they drive on the same side of the road as us!! We met an aussie guy on our dive boat who used to be a guide in this area so he offered to take some of us in his car and some of us drive the hired one and showed us all around the area for free (except his petrol). But he showed us all the local waterfalls as well as the tourist ones so the best of both worlds! Also as he was a guide he was really knowledgable about the plants and the area itself! We headed first to crystal cascades and the others swam but i couldnt be bothered so took some pretty photos instead! Then went to the No Fear rock where people jump off but i didnt do it as was a lil concerned as people have died so the common sense got the better of me - dammit!!! But the others did and vicky really hurt her arse - q amusing really! After there we headed thru some lovely countryside to tablelands to lake eacham and swam and saw some lil turtles - so cute! Before lunch we saw a very large twisted fig tree and scotty tolfd us there were whistling turtles in the lake so all we had to do was whistle and they would come to us. So we did the whistling and scotty was almost pissing his pants as the turtles come up to u no matter what - thats what he used to do to his tour groups for a laugh!! For lunch we headed to Yungaburra and ate massive burgers (mine was veggie of course!). In the avo went to millia millia waterfall and me and george were the only ones to get - was so bloody cold but a nice refreshin swim! Headed back to Cairns before dark and the guys left me and vicky to get the petrol etc and we did get a lil lost round the streets!! Typical!! So i decided to get an earlish night as rather tired - burning myself out too much!!
adios
me
