We headed on the bus to Puno early on Saturday morning, and upon arrival found thea noisy pub in a side street which on further investigation was showing the rugby!!! So happy although in hindsight and given the loud joyful South African sititng so close behind us maybe would have been better to miss it!! On the plus side did have the nicest stone oven baked pizza for dinner ever.
The next day we were up at 5.30 for a boat trip onto Lake Titicaca - the wonderful receptionist chose the morning to tell us pick up had been delayed by an hour - happy thoughts happy thoughts!! Anyhow... the boat trip took us first to the floating reed islands which each house several families. Although set up solely for tourists we reallyenjoyed learning how they take a year to build and the cool little miniture demo - highlight has to be dressing up as a local though - check out the photos! We then headed to the second reed island on a reed boat - very cool!! I even tried a little of te local delication (can't spell ops) - some lovely reed! After the longest boat ride ever we arrived at an island on the main lake where we had to climb some serious steps given the altitude for out lunch. There we learnt how the local hats and pom poms are symbolic of relationship -there were several in our group that thought this system should be adopted back home! Then it was time for the tremendous boat ride back which given we'd finally found a tour of English speaking people flew by. Off to Cuzco in the morning ready to fly to meet family in Brazil - very excited!
