Hello all. I'm back again. And I feel like it has been forever since I updated this thing last time.
Ok, so Ljubljana was really nice. I was walking around the town with Maja most of the day, meeting up with Mija and Karina in the evening to go see the castle and go for a drink in the city. After a while Maja and I had to catch the bus back to her place. Here we spent the night, and the next day around noon Daniel, Maja and I drove all the way to the coast to a town named Koper (in Slovenia) by the Italian border. Here we walked around for about an hour - I dont think neither Maja nor Daniel had been there before, so with my map in my hand I led the way and showed them a town in their own country. Koper is very inspired by the Italian (Venetian) lifestyle. So you could get by with speaking Italian. Having said goodbye to Maja and Daniel in Koper, I took the bus across the border with some German backpackers to go to Trieste. In Trieste I went to Marzio and Silvia's house. Marzio and Silvia is an Italian couple who I also found through couchsurfing, and who invited me to stay with them for a couple of nights. I had an amazing time with them, and we had some really nice talks about comics, Berlusconi and the Italian mafia. And also, Silvia is a wonderful cook. But I think I was a little unlucky with the weather, as I got stuck in an industrial port (Trieste) in the rain in the morning. I went to the castle in the morning, where I can imagine the view being really nice when the sun is out. But it wasnt. In the afternoon, however, the sun finally appeared and I walked around, and the town suddenly became more appealing.
The next day, I took the first train from Trieste to Venice where I had a day at the camp site I was staying at. If anyone passes through Venice, Plus Camping Jolly at Maghere is definitely worth a visit. Here I met a girl from Las Vegas (Nelly) and two guys from Silkeborg, Denmark (Nic and Chris) and we had a reallu nice time together at the camp site the rest of the day - where we ended up having that last beer too many. The next morning, we woke up and went off to Venice and walked like we had never done before. And it's true what they say - when you have seen Venice, you can die happy :)
After some hours of walking around the city seeing all the canals, having that nice pizza in the piazza and seeing the piazza di san marco, it was time to head back to the camp site where we met yet another group of backpackers. This time we ran into 2 guys and a girl from Texas, one girl and one guy from Zambia and a girl from South Africa. It turns out the last three are travelling together and were going to Florence today as well, so we decided to go together. Last night, however, all the others went to a night club to party on, but I wanted an early start (and save some money) so I went to bed after a short stop in the night club at the camp site in Venice. When I woke up this morning, I was expecting to meet the Zambians and the South African girl at the reception, but the never showed up. It turns out they were partying pretty late. So I left to Florence by myself early in the morning, as I had this great idea of stopping by Bologna on the way for a few hours. But I soon found out that the seat reservations for the intercity trains in Italy are mandatory, and cost 10 euro each. So on the train to Bologna, I decided to just stay in the train and continue all the way to Florence. On the train I met two girls from America who were working as health-instructors in the Darfur region in Sudan. They were quite interesting to talk to, and had quite the stories to tell about their experiences in Africa (not like South Africa and Zambia).
The two girls I met on the train, and I agreed to meet up for lunch today, at the Piazza del Duomo, but the trip to the camp site here in Florence was a lot longer than I had expected, so when I finally got to the cathedral - 20 mins. later than we had agreed - of course the had already left. So I walked around Florence myself seeing the inside of the Duomo and a bunch of all the small streets around the area (including a piazza close by with a big David statue). After walking around for a few hours - still sun burned on my shoulder from the time at the pool on my first day in Venice - I decided to go back to the camp site and just have a cheap dinner. So I did, and short after I came back, the Africans showed up. So we were sitting talking about their day and my day and small things. After a while it was time to see the sunset from Piazza de Michaelangelo - probably the most beautiful sunset I have seen in my entire life. It set right behind the bridges that lead across the river right next to the Duomo. Pictures will be provided later. After having stayed there for about 2 hours, we went back to the camp site (100m away) - and I finally had my long awaited Mojito :D
So here I am, unable to leave the camp tomorrow, even though I have seen most of what I want to see in Florence, due to a reservation I made for two nights online. And the Africans are leaving to go to Rome in the morning (via Pisa). And thus my current plan stays unchanged. I will go to Rome on Monday to see my cousin (Hans Christian) who will fly down here from Copenhagen to meet me on Monday.
