Helloooo everybody
the flight wasnt too bad here, it was 6 hours, a stop in Doha for a couple of hours then another 6 hours. There were hundreds of films and stuff to choose from so we were kept occupied.
The checkin was a bit of a nighmare, it took us an hour in the line to even get to the passport checking desk. But we're here safe and sound. The hostel is very basic, we have our own bathroom but we're not quite sure if we're allowed to put toilet roll in the toilet! We're doing it anyway. the shower is just a rubbish little hand held thing right next to the toilet, that was an interesting shower this morning!
We went to the grand palace this morning, the buildings and statues are absolutely amazing. so many colours and patterns, and the pictures just dont do it justice.
on the way i got harrassed by a pigeon lady who was shoving seed in my hands, and i was saying NO NO i dont want it, and she started ripping the bags open and pouring the seed in my hands and started demanding money off me. i walked away but fearing she'd run after me, thankgod she didnt!
we then went through more bustling streets to the boat to get across the river to the tower or dawn or something like that i cant quite remember. that was amaaazing, such an impressive building again. the stairs going up to the top were VERY steep and very high, it was really quite scary and went against so many english health and safety rules its untrue!
we wondered on the way through to the boat why we had to walk over little wooden planks, going back we discovered it was because the tide comes in, there was water everywhere. which sounds kind of ok apart from there were shops there. and nobody seemed to care! the whole place and culture is so bizarre!
after that we went to the reclining buddah, which is MASSIVE. We had to take our shoes off again, we took our shoes off so many times today we're going to be used to walking around bare foot in a couple of days! When we got back to the hotel we went to explore the famous backpackers street, the name escapes me though! The street is SOOOO busy, markets with everything you can possibly think of. loads of people around, and unfortunately lots of people who try and hastle you as well, including disabled people lying in the street. BUT its all part of the cultural experience and to be honest it didnt really bother me too much!
i tried my hand at bartering....which didnt really work i dont think. i bartered a tshirt down from 280 baht to to 230 baht (around 4.50) and a dress down from 250 to 200 (around 4 pounds). which isnt too bad in england i suppose but here i could probably have got them for half of that if i had tried harder....i will get lots of practice and soon get things for cheap cheap cheap!
we're off for a meal in about 15 minutes, my dinner earlier on cost 130, including the drink which is equivalent to around 2.50 so im hoping i'll eat for a decent price again tonight! Tomorrow is a 3 hour bus journey to Kanchanaburi and the hotel is said to be great with a pool etc so i'm looking forward to the week ahead there. Not sure if theres interent but im guessing if there is here then there will be there so i'll continue to update as often as i can.
Love to all byebye x x x
