Check out our little swift! Talk about travelling in style!
We finally made our short journey up the sunshine coast of Queensland on the Bruce Highway with stu firmly behind the wheel and me navigating like a pro. The other combination of me driving and stu navigating is a recipe for murder!!!!
We drove in the middle of nowhere for about 4 hours heading for Rainbow beach,Hervey Bay & Bundaberg checking out the sights and looking out for baby Joeys along the way but we were unsuccessful! We finally arrived at hervey bay and found a campsite! Yes i said campsite stu was sooooooo excited i however i was slightly concerned about the large snakes and spiders that live around here! It was all good, had a real good nite eating dinner on our little portable gas stove and drinking under the stars in a new place. The next day after a random nites sleep of me sleep talking to the imaginary spiders, sitting bolt upright and attempting to escape from stu in the tent bless him he thought i was possessed, we tried to book a ride over to frazer Island. We have been doing it all week but it was so booked up we didnt have much luck! After getting all excited ad thinking we could get over there the next day the weather was so bad we werent even allowed on the island! We are heading back this way in the winter so can do frazer and the whale watching when we come down from Cairns! So back to the tent for us whoops more drinking! Well being 27 now and apparantly passed it according to high school kids we were drinking untill the bed called us at about 8pm We had so much drink at the madlins and a crazy nite at the RSL club the nite before we left we didnt wanna drink for a few months hehe!
Next day back in the car totally gutted we couldnt stay longer to go over to frazer but headed off to Bundaberg. The home of rum, gorgeous beaches with massive waves and home to turtles!
We pitched our tent, again stu did it and i sort of supervised whilst looking for spiders and snakes in the area! Hit the beach and did our usual body surfing and wave jumping - stu thinks he is now the king at it! bless the Madlins, he owes them a lot! As we were laying on the beach we thought we were casting for baywatch or as stu would say to me a whale watching documentry! he loves me really! there was a film crew about and yes they spoted stuart sticking his head up and headed straight for us!!! i tucked the tummy in and adjusted my cleavage come on girls you know you do it!! hehe They then proceeded to talk to us about SHARKS and the current status as there have been well over 10 attacks this xmas period! I know i almost peed my pants! Stu was chatting away i told him it wasnt crimestoppers and they werent on a hunt for the sharks but her was on a roll! We had a good day and then we went to this turtle conservation centre on the beach called mon repos where hundreds of turtles come up the shore and lay their eggs and eight weeks after that the eggs hatch and the little hatchlings (baby turtles) stumble down to the shore and go into the water! Only a few hundred people a nite can go and the beach is all closed off so there is no one else about. We waited ages for something to happen as you just sit watching this documentry and a guides tells you all about them. Then other guides that have been on the beach in the dark, no cameras or lights are used as it scares them, came to collect us and said their are hatchlings ready to go back into the sea! As we walked towards the hole the guide told us to stop dead still and sit down on the sand stu was still wandering around like a blind man as he couldnt see a thing for about 10 mins bless. A mummy turtle was just appearting through the waves and coming to lay her eggs but as she got half way on to the sand she got scared and went back to the sea. It was pretty cool tho she was huge! Then we let the baby hatchlings go waddling into the sea, we had to form a light into the ocean and form two lines either side checking for crabs as they eat them but they all made it bless them. It was such a good experience and somethng real different we loved it!
Then as we had a flight pre booked we headed back down the brucey highway to Brissy to catch our 5 hour flight back to perth - home for the next 6 months! Again i navigated and stu drove getting some of his fast car training out of his system!
Even though it was only a short road trip i loved it especially having the tent too it was so easy we just picked a place drove where and when we wanted and the freedom was so good! i cant wait to go again when we reach WA and also back in Cairns when we come back!
