Bula From Fiji!
Hi there, we've just had a great time in Fiji! It was an absolutley lovely Island, although much smaller and poorer than I had imagined. We landed in nadi the second city of Fiji, which was actually no bigger than a small English town, with the tallest building standing at an incredible 3 stories high! It was beautiful and the people were very friendly, always waving and shouting Bula at you. The military coup had hit the country hard, and there weren't many tourists about, which was good for us in a was. At the military checkpoints the armt guys would just smile and wave you though as soon as they saw you were tourists, so there weren't really any problems there at all.
After a couple of days in Nadi we headed off to an Island called Robinson Crusoe Island. It was gorgeous, and also because of the coup there were only 12 of us on the island when it normally has 120 at this time of year! So it was great fun, and they had loads of free activities to keep us entertained! There was Kayaking, fishing, mud fights, Kava cerimonies and loads more! The people we met on the island were lovely too, and we all got on really well together! There was also snorkeling that we could do for free, and I have to say it was the best I've ever done! There was the most beautiful coral reefs with a 30m drop of and the water had 30m visability too! It was better than the great barrier reef (although didn't see any turtles!) I did have a close encounter with a sea snake though which was probalby the scariest thing that has happened all trip! I was swimming along near the shore, when all of a sudden a black and white stripy sea snake stopped infront of me. It didn't take long for me to turn around and sprint out of the water! I was reassured later that they are pretty harmless despite having one of the most poisoness venoms in the world. It was fun nevertheless!
We both really enjoyed the Island and on our last night were treated to some firedancing and some polenesian dancing (waikiki), which was great fun to watch too!
I hope you are all well and i will be writting from New Zealand soon.
Love
Nick
