Beth and I had a flight from Darwin to Alice Springs and had a 4 hour wait at the airport before catching another flight to Ayers Rock. It was a pretty boring 4 hours! There was nothing to do in that airport at all!
As we were flying into Ayers Rock we could see Uluru from the plane. It was pretty awesome. Some people fly through Ayers Rock just to see the rock from the plane and then fly straight out again! We had 4 nights there and we soon realised we had too much time!! We met 2 girls as soon as we went to the dorm and spent most of our time with them.
We contemplates hiring a car to do our own touyrs around the rock but no companies had any left to rent out! So we paid for a bus company who took us around for 3 days. We did every walk that you can possibly do around the rock! A short walk to the waterhole, the base walk, a guided ranger walk, a trip to see the sunrise and trips to see the sunset! It is pretty spectacular and is even better up close! It's got a lot of sacred meaning to the aboriginees and they request that you don't climb the rock but people still do it which is a bit disrespectful. There are also parts of the rock which are sacred to males and females and you're not allowed to take pictures of the rock from those angles. I found it interesting reading about how the aboriginees think that the world was created and the sacred meaning of the rock. There are also the Ulga's which are in the same area which are pretty spectacular rocks too. We did 2 walks around them and they looked great in the sunrise and the sunset. We did have a long time there but I think it was worth it.
