After a brief stop at Singapore Airport, we caught our flight to Malaysian Borneo. First stop was the capital of the Sarawak region, Kuching. We spent our first few days doing day walks at the nearby national parks of Damai and Bako. The Damai Beach walk was unexpectedly challenging - see the very uphill photos! We also used Kuching for our base to visit the nearby Semenkoh Orangutan Rehabilitaion Centre (see the separate blog entry).
Luckily for us, we timed our visit to coincide with Borneo's annual Rainforest Music Festival. Its an celebration of indigenous music from around the world and showcases some of the most talented musicians from Australia to Africa to Brazil to.....well even the UK!! It was a fun day with workshops and live performances and we enjoyed experiencing some alternative music. As you will see in the photos, the heavens decided to open mid way through the evening and Borneo did a very good impression of Glastonbury!
