We spent a few days in Hue it's one of the main places to stop off on the way up north. We went to the Citadel after having walked around the entire moat area looking for the entrance. The old imperial palace had huge red pillars with big gold dragons painted over it. The surrounding grounds were quite dirty though and there wasn't really that much to see there. We visited the cathedral which was in a European style and had beautiful stain glass windows, we could see it from our balcony. We really wanted to do a tour of the Vinh Moch tunnels in the Demilitarized Zone, but there only seemed to be one tour that went there in the whole of Hue. This was from 6am-6pm and you saw about 12 different sites throughout the day and would have spent 7 hours just sitting on the bus. All we wanted to do was see the tunnels, so unfortunately we didn't end up going. It was Chris birthday while we were there and we had a good night out in the DMZ bar (where all the tourists go). We got chatting to a few Vietnamese people there. I found out that the government enforce a 2 child limit for families and if you work for the government and have more than two children you will be sacked! One guy told us about a club down the road so we ended up going there, it didn't look like much of a party when we arrived but after about 5 mins half the people from the bar before were in there. We got a cyclo back and they guy was teaching us some Vietnamese words and Chris had to have a go of riding it! Needless to say our heads hurt in the morning. We got an overnight train to Hanoi and on it were pretty much all the tourists that were in the bar the night before, we keep seeing the same people from place to place. I was a bit disappointed with Hue, I didn't feel that there was that much to do there, I thought Hoi An was much nicer.
