Naomi and Becky's Travels
Hi everyone,
Today is Wednesday 17th Jan - our second full day in Bangkok. Flight over was OK - quite tiring but went quicker than I thought it would - lasted about 10.5 hrs.
Yesterday we did a bit of sightseeing - seemed to walk for miles!!
Went to see the Palace and its surroundings after getting a tuk-tuk to it - charged us 580 baht - got proper ripped off - we have since been in tuk tuks that have charged us 20baht. The exchange rate is about 70 baht to the pound.
Also saw the Victory monument then walked back to the hotel - which is really nice - looks quite plush with crystal chandeliers and door staff!
Tried some Thai noodles but couldn't eat them cos they were covered in chillis and were really hot!!
Today we have been around some Buddist temples - apparently it is national Thai budda day which means free entry into some of them for tourists. Also took a walk up Golden mountain - gives views over the whole of Bangkok.
Bangkok is v. busy - traffic is absolutely everywhere - and their driving is v. scary!! They cut each other up al the time- I'm surprised there aren't accidents all the time! Because of this it is also v. polluted. The heat probably doesn't help either - it's about 32 degrees.
We have booked an overnight train up to Chiang Mai tomorrow night where we're going to stay for 5 days and hopefully go elephant trekking! Got a flight back down to Bangkok before we join our tour through the rest of Thailand down through Malaysia to Singapore.
Hope everyone back home is OK. You'll have to email me with any news!
