Arrived in southern thailand on Saturday morning. Had to get a coach to Krabi where we're staying in so called beach bungalows although its a bit of a walk to the beach! Quite cute little huts though. Went out and got drunk on saturday night as part of Becky's belated birthday celebrations. Today was the first proper day of our tour that goes down through Thailand through Malaysia to Singapore. There are 18 of us in our group which consists of a married Canadian couple, an older single woman, Alice (fellow Essex girl), Jane and Hetty (sisters), The Irish boys (Matt and Chris), The Weymouth boys (Chris, Andy and Jack), The Scousers (Tim and Mike), Kiwi Andy and finally Ian and James. Today we went to Doi Suthep - a Buddhist temple up in the hills surrounding Chiang Mai. Got a songtheuw up the hill, took about 45mins to reach it - we had to go along some really windy roads - felt quite sick by the time we reached it! Plus the Thai driving - i.e. overtaking round blind corners and driving on the other side of the road, didn't help! Today we went on a 'soft trek' - I think I might report them to advertising standards authority (if there is one) - it was really hard work!! had to trek up the side of a mountain (might have been a hill... seemed like a mountain though!), cross a bamboo bridge then continue up the other side. Was actually really steep in places so was tough on the legs - especially as it was so hot (I'm making excuses now - lets just face it - I'm unfit!) Eventually made it...

Well, we're now in Chiang Mai! It's a city in Northern Thailand. We got an overnight train from Bangkok on Thursday and arrived in Chiang Mai early Friday morning. We had our own little cabin with bunk beds and a little sink. I slept surprisingly well. Journey took just over 13 hours but went quite quickly. Got picked from the train station by the guesthouse we are staying in and rode in the back of a pick up. Got taken to the tour booking service first...
