Kia Ora! I'm here! Aaaaaah after a years planning and saving I've finally got my bum overseas back to Sumner in Christchurch.
The trip over was very Asian. Singapore Airlines is lovely and we were given hot towels all the time and NOODLES! I sat next to 'Taiwan Tony' who's last name was 'Fu'. I accidentally asked how you spell that and was very offended. Haha! He slightly creeped me out though as he asked to take my picture so he could show me to his friends and he kept calling me 'Cheryl' so I think he thought I was famous or something. Interesting. Ate loads of airplane noodles and my legs felt pretty arthritic. Sums up my flight. I'm sure you've all heard about my whiskEY fiasco at Changi.
When I got to Christchurch Mark, Poppy and Zach were there to greet me off the plane with a big banner and it was unreal seeing them all in the flesh and not on a computer screen! Poppy is as gorgeous as ever, Mark hasn't changed a bit and Zach wears his trousers at his ankles.
First Impressions of the earthquake: As you know and as I've seen for myself Christchurch is now a very flat city, and it's devastating how many $million houses are deserted and hanging over crumbled cliff faces out at 'Redhills' and 'Taylor's Mistake'. Mark has briefed me what to do if we experience another quake and has told me all about the ever continuing aftershocks they experience maybe once a month.
The mountains have a big fresh dump of snow on them and I'm so keeeeen for some snow boarding soon! Had a lovely day walking along Sumner Beach and found Paua shells. We walked out by our old wood cabin of a house by the stables which was so mental and nostalgic to see again. We reminisced about when we forced Zach to eat flowers and he threw up and when we built dams and and zipwires across the ditch. And guess what? (This is for Anna and the parentals) TILLY AND DANIEL ARE STILL ALIVE AND GOING STRONG! These are the old donkeys at the paddock that we cantered on.
I was totally amazed at how many people Mark knew when I got out here then quickly realised that it's just the way of life here. Everyone says 'hey', 'enjoy your day','how ya doin bro?' to everyone that they walk past and the kiwis are the friendliest people in the world.
We've been plotting the rest of the trip all day and checking out camper vans which you can hire for $17 a day. Poppy and I are going to embark on a 2 week road trip next week in search of hot springs, fjords, bungee jumps and snow resorts. Can't wait! But before that Zach has made me swear to get a tattoo with him as long as they all come to see the crusaders (super 12 Christchurch rugby team) at the AMI next Friday.
I will keep you all posted. For now I'm going to eat pizza and sleeeeeep ZZZZZZZZZ because I'm sooo jetlagged!
Loads of love

Anna L Hey, creepy Tone sounds well creepy! I tried to persuade Stu to get inked in NY as it would be so against type but Heather and Kirsty were appalled. Enjoy your road trip sweetheart and keep safe. Trust no-one! Nah, joking, just auntie angst. Look forward to more updates. Xx
