ok, I've been busy today getting everything around for the big ride tomorrow. I thought I'd take some time to show you what I'll be carrying in my back during the trek down the trail. Hopefully the picture is big enough that you can see the numbers that I wrote down. So without further adieu, here is my gear list:
1: My pack - will hold items 2-10
2: raincover, hammock, and sleeping bag - the raincover is for my pack to keep everything dry during a rain storm. The hammock is what I'll be sleeping in... I'm sure we'll take pictures whenever we set up camp. I'm still debating on whether or not I'm going to take the sleeping bag.... its supposed to be in the 90's every day, so I doubt I'll be cold
3:Dr. Bronner's Castille Soap, cooking ware, and toothbrush kit - The castille soap is great for cleaning everything from dishes to clothes to me. Plus its safe for the environment. My cooking ware is a collapsable blue cup and a titanium can with titanium spork.... yes I actually own a titanium spork!
4: Food - this is the good stuff; the stuff that I will probably be dreaming about during most of the ride. I'm bringing oatmeal, clif bars, some energy gels, bagels and peanut butter, and three packets of freeze dried spaghetti... There will also be places to stop along the way so we will probably be eating like kings. I also have 2 water bottles to hold the precious water that we will need to be continually drinking - especially if the weatherpeople are correct
5: Water purifier - the Waterpurifier is basically a high tech, ahnd pump brita filter that we can use to pump water out of the Potomac and drink. I also have another water purifying uv light pen which we'll use to purify the water.
6: Sunscreen - pretty self explanatory I think
7: Camera - My trusty NikonD80 with extra battery and mini tripod... because I love to take pictures
8: HeadLamp - This monster is a headlamp I made with my dad. to say its bright is an understatement(its over 500 lumens) It'll come in handy when we are riding through tunnels, or just hanging out after the sun goes down.
9: Clothes - a change of clothes... yeah just one... I'm hoping my stench keeps the gnats away.... yeah pretty gross, I know
10: High-tech gadgets - ok, so we can't really update this blog with out some electricity. That's what the solar panel is for.The solar panel is hooked to a battery charger which charges AA batteries. What's cool about this battery charger is that I can plug a usb cable into it and charge my phone using the AA batteries. So hopefully we steal enough energy from the sun to keep the blog up to date on the adventure
Ok well that's pretty much everything, there are a couple things like my ipod, and a tire pump that I forgot to put in the picture; but that gives you a general idea of what's needed in order to make it 3.5 days on the trail. Check back in tomorrow morning when we start the big adventure! CAn't Wait!

David Good stuff. I know people that have worked for Abilities. The organization could use the support. I'm also envious of your journey. I at one time dreamed of riding the C&O Canal.
