Neil's Round the World Trip!
I was woken up this morning by an Irishman who was shouting at his Irish friend to hurry up so they could start drinking (this was 9am). Myself and Ben checked out of the hostel, we intended to hitchhike to Dunedin but after a futile 1 hour of trying we decided to get a bus.
We booked our bus and then walked around the city for a few hours. I tried to get my haircut in salon (you know what I'm like!) but all the salons were full so I ended up going to this dodgy hairdresser down an alley. I walked in and after a while a rotund Russian woman appeared grunted and shoved me into a chair then uttered "2 or 3?". "Uugh..3" I retorted and she then gave me a really bad haircut. You might not notice but I do, it's just not "texturised" the way I like it!
Anyway I got my bus with Ben to Dunedin and after 5 hours or so we arrived in a cloudy, overcast Dunedin. Immediatly I recognised the Scottish influence, both the architecture and street names are Scottish e.g Forth Street, Scotland Place etc. Also there is a huge statue of Robert Burns in the city centre. We checked into our hostel on a steep incline and then went out to celebrate St Paddys. We tried to get in the Craic bar but it was full so we went into the Irish Ra Bar and had several rounds of Guiness. I got a Guiness T-shirt and Ben got a baseball cap. We then went to the more lively Terrace bar and had another Guiness and listened to a few drunk Irish guys shout "F*ck the Queen" every few minutes but mainly whenever there was silence between music tracks. Also girls were on a scavenger hunt and so we were repeatedly asked if we were wearing Calvin Klein underwear!
We walked back to the hostel around 2am after we'd had a chicken satay meal from a Thai street vendor.
