After much deliberation we both decided to do a 4 day open water scuba diving course with Deep Sea Divers Den. It cost $475 including $30 in taxes, plus an extra $60 for a medical. We spent two days at the training centre. We arrived to lots of rain..gutted! Cairns is quite an easy city to navigate around - but all the roads are very similar so it is easy to become disorientated. Apparently the rainy season here starts in December, but it appears to have come early. We now live in all Mcds because of the free wifi. There were a group of 5 French people, most of whom were aged 60 and above. They were a bloody nightmare, extremely rude, ignorant and very slow. The Ghan was certainly a journey to remember, it was like the Hogwarts Express in Harry Potter. We pulled up to the train station in Alice Springs and could not believe the size of it. It is about 1km in length with about 30 carriages, consisting of a car carrier, several lounges and dining carriages, a luggage hold etc. There is 3 classes - red, gold and platinum service.
