Oh dear oh dear I forgot to write for a while. Well, first we went to Arequipa, second biggest city in Peru. Twas ok, one day I went to a citadel where nuns and monks had isolated themselves from the community for 700 years or something. Another day we went to the deepest canyon in the world, I think its almost twice as deep as the Grand Canyon, saw some condors, walked around, was ok.
And then I got to Cusco! A very cool city...and luckily enough it was the biggest festival of the year, equivalent to the inca new yaer, called inti raimi. Every day there were huge processions with costumes and music through the streets. One day I went horseriding around the incan ruins jusat outside of town. On the last day of the festival, everyone walks up to these ruins and theres a big show and ceremony.
The next day I started my alternative inca trek to macchu picchu. The first day we climbed up towards this mountain, we got up to 4800 metres, it was freezing though. The food was amazing, three course meals everyday in the big tent. The second day we climbed down and got into the jungle. The third day we walked through banana, coffee, avocado and passion fruit plantations in the jungle, and i stocked up big time. Then in the afternoon I played football with the locals in the village we´d got to. The fourth day we walked downhill all day, which was the toughest I think, then got a train to another small town. The next day from there we got to machu picchu for sunrise, it was amazing. The next day, our guide invited the whole group round to his house and his wife cooked us up some guinea pig and potatoes, it was delicious! And now Im heading to a beach resort right in the north for a few days before coming home! yay!
