It's already ~ 3 weeks into my vacation and it's been great to date! I started off by enjoying some time back in PEI/NB/NS visiting with family/friends and relaxing before flying overseas for my travels. I then spent a few days in Vancouver & had a great time seeing the west coast & spending time with both Melody & Anne - thanks ladies for being my tour guides! And then the overseas travel began...
After arriving in Seoul, I ventured out to take the Subway to the hostel where I had previously made reservations. I quickly found out that Koreans, although they speak VERY minimal english are always willing and eager to help you find your way. The subway system was quite easy to figure out; however the 2 minute walk to the hostel was not! I learnt that in Seoul there are generally no street names/address markings, nor do Koreans navigate based on address landmarks. Many tried to help me find my hostel with maps out, phone calls being made, a Korean escort through the streets with GPS in hand... Lost already....not much of a surprise with my lack of sense of direction! Thankfully we were approached by an english-speaking backpacker who walked me to the hostel. It turned out to be a small house that was just tucked around the corner. Hopefully tomorrow I can orient myself a little bit better!
