El Carmen Church ruins, Antigua
Its history dates back to 1638 when permission was obtained for its construction, motion requested by the title of Our Lady of Carmen. It suffered damages during the earthquakes of 1717, 1728 and 1773, finally being ruined and closed to the public, but its facade speaks of its current and past beauty. It is accentuated by a baroque style, and stucco columns decorated with floral designs. Unlike other churches of La Antigua Guatemala, its facade has no images and displays twenty-four sets of columns, all decorated with stucco details.
