Tom:
Crossing the International Date Line is more bizarre than we thought it would be. When we left Auckland on 23rd it was 5:oopm, and we touched down in Santiago, Chile at midday after an 11hour flight. This meant that it suddenly made perfect grammatical sense (well, loosely anyway) to make statements such as "this time today, we were leaving for Auckland airport". We made the stupid mistake of immediately going to bed, and we are now regretting it after having a night lying awake and actually having to talk to each other!!! Anyway, we´re in Spain´s "down under" now, so over to Nil...
Nil:
Wow, wow, wow. I love it here. It´s like an exotic Zamora. We haven´t done much sight seeing yet, mostly because of our stupid move to sleep during the day on arriving, and because we couldn´t sleep through the night we slept in this morning! We´re all backwards. But I think jetlag looks good on us - the bags under the eyes give us a certain rock look! Being able to speak Spanish is a huge advantage here, we don´t feel vunerable like we did in south-east Asia. And the culture, food, people, well just about everything reminds me of my year in Spain, so I feel very at home. We´re staying in this really cute family-owned hostel, and have just entered the first internet place we could find after successfully hunting down a superb restaurant to eat in, which served the ´menu del dia´ (menu of the day). After three courses (all for $4 each!!!!BARGAIN!!) we´re going to waddle along with our rock-star look to the nearest park and try and look cultured by reading our latest books. (Word to the Yardley boys... you´re brother is reading Pride and Prejudice!!)
We wanted to say a HUGE congratulations to Ruri and Joe Yardley for getting hitched. Nice one guys, looking forward to celebrating with you soon.
xxxxxx
Tom: P.S. I´m supposed, once in a while, to get "in touch with my feminine side", and Mr. Darcy´s just such a dark, brooding, gorgeous character....
