Well, it's the night before (or morning of... whatever way you choose to look at it!) our big adventure, and I'm wide awake... I'm far too excited to sleep! In 16 hours, Kristen and I (along with her friend Kate) will be boarding our flight to New York!!

Just about everything is packed and ready to go... I'm at the stage of trying to think of the obscure things I may have forgotten to pack, like hair ties (almost forgot them!) or my ski helmet (some may mock my sister and I for insisting on our use of helmets whilst skiing... but for those of you who are familiar with either my or my sister's lack of co-ordination, do you really think it's a good idea for us NOT to wear them?)...

This will be my first overseas adventure using a backpack rather than a suitcase - we figured that pulling suitcases through snow and slush would NOT be fun, and might be somewhat detrimental to said suitcases, so my awesome friend Lydia has loaned me her massive 90L backpack. It scares me that it's pretty full, but at the same time, we ARE going to Canada in the middle of WINTER, where we can expect an average of -17 degrees during the day, and warm clothes take up a lot more room. Poor Kristen has a smaller backpack, and mum and I had to sit with her and cull what she'd packed to make sure she had enough room to take stuff back home with her. It was a rather traumatic occasion for her... Poor sis! :P

Hopefully I'll be able to keep this updated fairly regularly; I have this app on my iPhone (what isn't there an app for these days?), so even if I can't get a pre-paid microsim straight away, I should still be able to jump onto wi-fi hotspots which are apparently quite prolific in the States, and hopefully Canada too!
