Inside the York Castle Museum
This is York Castle Museum's world-famous recreated Victorian street, Kirkgate. The first street of its kind, visited by 30 million people, is alive with the sights, sounds and colourful characters of York more than 100 years ago. You can step inside the shops and meet the people who work there (including one man from the confectionary shop, who will show you a 100 year lump of sugar). The rest of the museum has displays of everyday life, with authentic household room scenes, toys and clothes from the past, Civil War and Second World War galleries and the Condemned Cell where highwayman d*** Turpin spent his last night.
