Across the bridge Knippelsbro is Christianshavn (famous Freetown Christiania) where there are Hippies with their own set of rules. This is the place where cars are not allowed and everyone gets around on bicycles. The architecture is wonderfully colourful and unique and surrounded by nature. Christiania was founded in 1971 when a group of hippies took over an area of abandoned military barracks and developed their own set of rules, completely independent of the Danish government.
