First impressions of Roma werem't great, we spent 3hrs sitting on the floor of the train in between carriages from Milan as we didn't have reserved seats. Arrived late in evening and went straight to hostel on outskirts of city which meant the first places i saw were dirty, littered & covered in grafitti - a far cry from Switerland!
The hostel was actually a campsite & for 10 euro a night we had our own private caravan with an on site bar-restuaruant & outdoor pool!
Next morning we got up & ventured into Rome, it was 34° and teaming with tourists. Visted Vatican, Colosseum & Forum which are fascinating but everywhere is so busy it was hard to appreciate.
Following day with impressive hangovers preceeded by our acceptance into the "Fab Bar" (staff make'shift bar where everyone who works on site hangs out in evenings) we decided to avoid the city & spent day sleeping by pool & swimming. As day began to cool slightly we went into Rome for dinner (Zucchini flowers followed bag Spaghetti Alla Carbonara...yum yum). And explored Rome by foot starting at the Trevi fountain where we threw in coins & made wishes. Spent evening wandering from Piazza to Piazza with our gelato, discovering monuments, fountains and roman buidings at every turn and as sun set my opinion of Rome changed completely - at night this place is magic and so romantic!!
