We're now all safely arrived in New Zealand! We left Hong Kong, on the evening of 28th Dec, and flew overnight to Sydney, where we stayed for 3 hours before flying onto Auckland! We have been amazed at how well the kids are managing with the travel and upset to their body clocks and so on. Obviously we have had a couple of moments where things have been tricky, but on the whole - fab!!
We collected our vehicle of choice - our Mazda bongo at the airport, which sounds as bonkers as it is!! Its a bit of a banger, but will hopefully do the job! It sleeps 3/4, two in the pop up roof, but funnily enough, no takers for up there yet, as you sleep on the floor of the roof, so the kids cant see us, and access is impossible when someone else is sleeping up there!! Anyway, no Miller trip would be complete without toby's forward planning, so true to the scouting tradition, he has brought a tent, so between the two, we'll get everyone a spot! Hopefully the weather will be kind to us, as days in the van may well lead to a touch or 5 of cabin fever!!
We have come to see our friends, Nicki and Bruce and their children Beth and Jonny! We are regrouping here til New years day when we will leave on our tour, heading down to the south island first, and then back up to the north later on in jan. So, what do you do on 30th December?? Of course, you head down to the beach, and enjoy 23 degrees in and out of the water!! (Is that not what you are all doing too??) - sorry! Cant help rubbing it in; its soooooo good to feel the sun, and apparantly, we have bought the good weather with us (from where I'm not so sure!!). We've had to come in from the sun so we dont over do it on the first day!!
It's been so lovely to read all your lovely messages - thanks for keeping in touch and making it such a treat to tell you all about our travels!! We will certainly email you back when we can!!
For now, as we get ready to greet 2008, we wish each and every one of you a Healthy and happy new year, and thank you all for the fabulous love and friendship that we enjoy every day from the \wonderful people we are privileged to know, and lukcy enough to call friends and family (enjoy that; it only comes once a year!!!). as we'll see the beginning of the New Year before the rest of you, we'll be sure to order a good one for us all!!
Messages from the kids:
Rosie: The best thing so far has been going to the Kohimarama beach in Auckland this morning, and the worst thing has been seeing the meat shops in Hong Kong with the turkey heads, small intestines and other yuk stuff hanging up, jet lag and feeling sick! Hi readers, I'm having a great time and so far its been really cool!
Connie: The best thing so far has been the beach, and the worst thing was the meat shops in Hong Kong - I hated the ducks and turkeys, the pigs feet and seeing crocodile soup! Hi everyone, I'm having a lovely time, and I think this trip is going to be very nice! Happy New Year everyone!
Isla: The best thing so far has been everything, especially seeing the kittens in the shop window! The worst thing was all the busy people at night in Hong Kong, and all the crowds! Happy New Year to everyone!
Meg: The best thing was going to see the Buddha in Hong Kong (he looks like me!), going on the star ferry and the beach. The worst thing was going on the plane and waking up when I wanted to be asleep!
