After Philip Island we headed to one of Australia's most loved spots, but we spoke to so many backpackers who have never heard of it, which made us want to go even more. Wilson's Promontory is a massive National Park full of huge mountains, gorgeous beaches and free roaming wildlife. You could see this on the one road drive into the park which alone took 30 minutes and provided us with plenty of 'road kill' photo opportunities. We arrived early after a comfortable night in a free campsite just outside the park, so we were well in need of a hot shower, after freshening up we decided to get sweaty again and head off for a short 2 hour walk to 'squeaky' beach. The beach is called this for a reason, a reason Aaron hates, as you walk on the sand it squeaks because it's so clean and fine and it goes through Aaron like chewing cotton wool. On the way we literally bumped into a Wallaby, we did film him hoping he would hop around a little but he was shy. Some of the sites from the walk were lovely with the waves crashing against the rocks and the beach being totally deserted. The only problem with these beaches is it's a little too early in the summer and the water is absolutely freezing! After arriving back from the walk we chilled out in our lovely surroundings, allowing ourselves only 6 minutes in the shower keeping our conscience cleaner than our bods as every drop counts, so the posters say! The only other venture we did allow ourselves to do this day was head down to 'Whiskey' beach for sunset, only a short drive and one of the only places you can get the full sunset which we haven't seen since the Whitsunday's and miss so much. The beach was yet again deserted which is always nice, on the way back though we stumbled across a wombat, Aaron wasn't sure whether they got stroppy if you got too close so he sent me past him first, now there's love for you! (It's not love its common sense!)The next day we had planned a more active day, we decided to climb Mount Oberon which the guide told us was a medium/hard walk, and the guide wasn't kidding. Pork Chop hill eat your heart out! After an hour of 99.9% incline we reached the top…oh nooo we didn't…there were steps hidden…after the 100% inclining steps we reached the top with our faces red, veins bulging and our hearts trying to get our of our chests. BUT the view from the top was amazing, it gave us 360 degree views of the park, wow! At this point all we cared about was whether it would hurt to just roll all the way down the hill/mountain.We hit the showers in this well facilitated park and then retreated to the free campsite us being mingebags and not wanting to pay for another night.
