We arrived after a fun and action packed day on the Magic bus. Our stop offs were Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove.
On arrival at Hot water Beach it looks normal but if you take a closer look there are about 200 people in a 20sqft patch with spades, guessing that was where the hot water was hiding. What you had to do was dig a hole about 2ft and then it would start to fill up with water, nice and warm but sometimes schorchio water! So much so that if you get caught in a certain spot you end up doing 'the waters hot' dance which is often mistaken for the ' I need a wee' dance! When we had our fill of water we hopped back onto the bus and were dropped off at the start of the walking path down to Cathedral Cove, this apparently is used on postcards and brochures from NZ but we haven't ever seen it.It was about a 40 minute walk down there and it was a lovely, peaceful beach divided by two by a huge limestone cove.
After the walk and an hour on the beach we made our way to Whitianga which is a small town with not much there apart from a huge bay surrounded by pretty cliffs (not a bad view to wake up to!).We had a lovely hostel with great Finish room mates, we chilled out and found out that the Ozone layer has a huge hole in it above NZ, found out by spending a hour and a half in a kayak which left us with very red faces!
