Arrived in Bologna after a fast train trip from Venice. Came out of the station to around 28 degree heat - caught a local bus into the centre of the city to our hotel. Another masterly bit of organisation by Vicki - we had a great Hotel literally backing onto the Piazza Magiorre - the main square. After a walk around some back alleys we caught an open top bus for a 1 hour tour around the city. Back to the square and we had a great meal with the mandatory bottle of red in a sidewalk restaurant just off the square.
We got lucky as the musico academie (associated with the universtity we think) was putting on a free open air concert in the square which we enjoyed for around an hour. The atmosphere was great. The city seems to be busy but mainly locals - so not so many tourists.
Tuesday 3rd
A visit to the Ducati Museum at the factory was worthwhile with some great photo opportunities of historic bikes belonging to Hailwood, Falappa, Fogerty, Bayliss, Corser, Luchinelli, Capirossi, Hayden etc and of course Casey Stoner's world championship winning Desmosedeccis. Also some interesting information from our guide on Ducati history - started before the war making adding machines, shavers and radios.
Another couple of hours walking around the back streets of the central city - another sidewalk cafe for lunch then a bus to the airport.
Now back to London
