I don't really know if I'm going to stick to this, nor whether or not I'll even finish this blog entry at all. As I write, I'm sitting in my somewhat messy bedroom as Roy Hodgson's brave, valiant, patriotic lionhearts defend and hoof their way to another drab victory against Ukraine, its currently 78 minutes in and they're 1-0 up thanks to Wayne Rooney. One can only hope that Shevchenko and co can turn that around.
In 12 days I'm going on a holiday that I've always wanted to do; interrailing around Europe. I remember the first time I contemplated doing it was on the final day of my first "lads holiday" in Kos, where I was one of only two people in a group of 12 who weren't eager to do the same type of holiday again the following year, noting that I wanted to "see the world." That inexcusably cringeworthy cliché aside, I'm really excited and its going to be boss, boss and interesting. The mix of outrageously cheap alcohol, boss weather, interesting sights and 12 of my best friends is a recipe for success, in my eyes.
My cultural experiences in life so far have included farting in the Houses of Parliament and falling asleep hungover in a concentration camp's cinema room (I think it was a newly added feature, I doubt they had them back in the day.) So I've not really done anything that I would consider to have broadened my horizons. Chances are I will come back from this holiday not fulfilled with the experience of seeing sights of immense historical significance, but only with hilarious stories of me and my friends escapades while under the influence of ridiculously strong foreign alcohol, but at least before I go I have every intention of making the trip intellectually fulfilling as well as fun.
Our route at the moment see's us starting in Budapest and travelling through Ljubljana, Bratislava, Krakow, Prague, Berlin, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Paris and ending up in Munich, whether or not we will stick to that route is another matter though. I'm most looking forward to Prague, friends who have travelled before have told me it is fantastic, and the idea of drinking cheap Staropramen in an immense town square is a prospect that I find attractive. Krakow and Budapest too, I've been through TripAdvisor, Flickr, Youtube and forums with peoples stories of their trips and these two cities never fail to look like both amazing fun while also having the architecture, history and culture to make it seem like its going to be rewarding as well.
I don't know what else to write really, I'm 19 and I'm going on a holiday that I hope I will remember for the rest of my life, I'm going to get drunk a lot and take photos of interesting things. I've enjoyed writing this so I'll attempt to update this as much as I can to document the things we get up to.
T'ra.
