Ni Hao everybody!
Day1
After a 10hour flight from Heathrow we landed at China's capital Beijing, Beijing airport is amazing, so quiet and clean. Kate was impressed with the flushes in the toilets! We took a taxi to the hotel, during the taxi ride we became aware of how the Chinese drive, cut everyone up and beep their horns a lot! The hotel we are staying in is nice, we checked into our rooms and decided to head out to the Summer Palace. The Summer Palace was very beautiful, after walking around and taking lots of photos we realised just how tired we were, as we didn't get any sleep on the plane!! We were due to meet our group at 6pm so we planned to go back to the hotel and get an hours kip before the meeting.
There are 16 of us in the group 2 of which are Australian, 1 American, 1 German and the rest are English. That evening we went out for a Chinese meal with our group including our tour guide Fisher, the food was different to the chinese back home. We had 2 whole roasted duck's for our table, Fisher said that it is possible for you to eat the head of the duck so of course Mike decides to eat the duck head (including the eyes!!!) yummy.
Day 2
We got a 2 hour bus ride at 8am to the Great Wall Of China. Instead of getting the cable car up we decided to walk up to the wall, not realising just how hard the climb would be, once reaching the top many more steps followed. Drenched in sweat we walked a long way along the wall, Kate missed out the last section as she waited in the shade with a nice bottle of water. Mike continued till the end of the open section. We had the option of walking back down the wall, getting the cable cart or the tobbogon, we definatly made the right decision in choosing the tobbogon, so much fun!
When we arrived back to the hotel we went with a few of the group to the Olympic grounds, where we took a leisurly walk around untill the evening.
Day3
We took the Subway (which is much nicer than the underground) to Tinamen Square were we had lots of pictures with random Chinese people who were very excited to see westeners. Once we had looked around Tinamen Square we went into the Forbidden City, it took us hours as it was so big. A couple of the members of the group got lost. It got a little boring after about 1 hour as the buildings were very similar.
We were exhausted by this point so decided we would go to the Temple of Heavan which is beautiful and very relaxing, we listened to the Chinese choir。
