Well travels couldn’t have really got off to a better start – checked in at the airport – only to find out been upgraded to Business Class We were all so excited….went straight through and found the lounge and had a drink and some free food. The flight was my best ever !! You could practically recline your seat the whole way, we were given pajamas, ordered our breakfast and drinks were flowing (which helped with my fear of flying) So managed to sleep quite comfortably for most of the flight which was a bonus
Arrived in Bangkok and spent the first couple of days relaxing at Pippas and visiting the shopping centre, trying to find our way on the sky train was an adventure, but are pros now ;) We tried our first thai food, which was delicious. We then went to the Banyan Tree Hotel for a drink which had a bar on the 59th floor – was amazing – like being up in the sky, as they were no other tall buildings around, it was amazing!
Then on the 16th we headed off to the airport to Phuket, the flight was only an hour. Bumped in to Laura & Karen at the airport so had lunch together and arranged to meet up the following night. Checked in to the Centara hotel which was gorgeous. Had a delicious welcome drink and decided to go scope out Patong Beach. The area was a bit like Benidorm, it was so busy and full or tourists. The beach wasn’t too clean either so we decided to move to another beach, Karon, after our 3 nights we had booked. In the evening we wandered the town and did our first bit of bartering (which we got better and better at) So I got a sarong for my travels and Caroline got a bikini (1st of about 5) Had relaxing day on the 17th by the pool and beach & met up with the girls for dinner.
On the 18th we had a yummy breaky in the hotel, (have put on about 8LBs in the last two weeks due to streaky bacon!) We did the tour this day to Phi Phi island, where they filmed “the Beach”, was beautiful but full of people so hard to take nice photos. We had a great tour guide this day and were jumping off the boat to snorkel. I had a banan and was feeding the fish – so many ! In the evening we tried our 1st Pad Thai and met up with a guy and two girls we had met the day before.
19th was a chilled day by the pool and something to tick off my to do list – a drink at a pool swim up bar – even better still I didn’t have to pay ! Andrew that we met treated me to a Thai beer Later this day we moved round to Karon Beach to another hotel and had a yummy dinner (Fajitas) This is the day my straightners blew up so not so happy with hair !! On the 20th we had another chilled day and did more shopping in the eve, the markets were full of so many beautiful thinks, hand carved soaps for example, and souvenirs. Would have bought more but have to think about carrying it We were getting good at bartering now!!
We wanted to do another boat tour so we tried to pick a near by island to make it a bit cheaper and it rained all day – we were on this beautiful island and we spent it sitting on the floor taking cover by the toilets Such a shame. The aussie friends we had made came to our hotel for dinner which was nice then we went with them to Patong Beach to Seduction for a night out Then we got a tuk tuk home!
22nd we flew to Koh Samui ….beutiful and a millions miles away from Phuket, even the airport was gorgeous…almost forgetting the plane…the propeller mulicolooured tiny plane – wasn’t best please but got through it
We were looking forward to this hotel as knew it was going to be nice….and it didn’t disappoint. The Jacuzzi on the balcony was awesome and the view was incredible, in the morning I would just open the patio doors and look out, was amazing !! We met up with the girls and went on to the beach for some dinner (where we spent the next 6 nights) Walking along the beach at night is one of my favourite things so far, loved it. We met little Nina, a gorgeous little Thai girl who was selling flower necklaces for 20bht, about 40p, to be fair I would have bought anything from her she was so cute! We then went for a cocktail and sat right by the sea on compfy beds. I lit a floating candle which was amazing…made a wish ;) We arranged bday cake for Laura too.
The 23rd was Lauras bday so we had a nice lazy time by the pool then lunch on the beach and dinner at a gorgeous restaurant on the beach later at night, was surrounded by fairy lights. We then had a night out and tried the best club on the island – Green Mango. This was the night we sampled mcdonalds cheesy chips !! ;)
Decided to move to another hotel, which was so much cheaper but also right on the beach, so we moved on the 24th after making the most of the infinity pool before hand. More sunbathing on the beach in the afternoon and I bartered for a gorgeous dress from a lady on the beach. Pad Thai again this night on the beach for dinner This was the night we sampled mcdonalds cheesy chips !! ;)
On the 25th we had an awesome day – we went on a Jungle Safari…so our transport for the day was a 4 x 4 – was so much fun !! We rode an elephant which was amazing, visited a waterfall, had lunch at a view point of the island and visiting a big Buddha amongst other things (and getting a chocolate pancake) Was such a fun day and we had great people on our jeep, we had a smooth ride when we sat up top, then one Manchester guy had a go – at the worst possible time, was so bumpy, got stuck in the mud and hit by a few trees !!
More relaxing the next couple of days then on 27th went to Koh Tao and Nanghan Island….incredible. The pictures show how gorgeous this small private island was – there is a beach walk down the middle to get from one side to another, this was crystal clear water – what I had been waiting for all holiday and another thing on my to do list so I was happy !! We did some snorkeling to and saw massive fluorescent multicolored fish Then walked up a hairy steep mountain to a view point…but was worth it. Was incredible and my favourite place of the 2 weeks. Last night out and bumped in to Nina again…got a cuddle this time…so I bought 6 !
27th we had an early flight back to Bangkok and visited the Grand Palace which was really impressive (not the clothes we had to wear to cover up though) Then down the river to Koah San Road, which was busy with shoppers and travelers, amazing shopping so we spent a few hours here!! Carolines feet were swollen by the time we’d finished and mine were about to drop off ! Well worth it though !
Dropped Caz off last night at the airport…(miss you !!) and ive had a fabulous day today, Pippa treated me to a manicure and pedicure…(at the same time) so im going to be the only traveler with such gorgeous nails !! Then ………I went and got some hair extensions!! Yep…I have long hair !! I love it, so different !!
Then the Harkers did me a delicious Christmas dinner, we had crackers and everything !! As I wont get a proper Christmas, was so lovely !!
So now off to pack again an off to Singapore to meet Louise where the real travelling begins….hostels….eek ! I am used to luxury but so excited !! We have two nights there, then fly to Darwin.
Loving every minute….missing you all and keep in touch !!!!!!!! Miss you xxxxxxx
Almost forgot….my Thai experience of a massage (it might be because I’m trying to block it out) It was a head and shoulder massage….but she started by standing on my feet !!!!!!!!! Then my legs and back of my knees, have never been in so main pain, a little tear came out after about 10 mins. It was through a towel and I’m sure she just pinched me for an hour !! Anyway ….i cried, as soon as we left…I couldn’t keep it in….not nice !! and now I’m sure I hurt more than I did before …but anyhoo, an experience ;)
