Day 38 - Saturday 1 September
Coast Day!!!
Left the house late and was pretty hungry so had to stop for food - Hungry Jacks (Burger King at home). Drove down Mt. Cotton Road hoping to see some Aussie wildlife.... no such luck! Only took an hour to get to Surfers paradise which was pretty much as expected, lots of surfers and skanks... very touristy! Checked into our apartment half way between surfers and broad beach - Emerald Sands, $90 each for 2 nights for an apt overlooking the sea.
Walked back into town, on the way some random guy offered us two passes to a pub crawl in surfers.... was so desperate to sell the tickets he dropped the price by $30 each! We didn't buy any!
Did a little bit of shopping - had to get a top and shoes for that night! Tried the Aussie chocolate - horrid! Rushed back to apt to meet Paul. Nicole and Darren (Linda's lil sis & her boyfriend) came over and we all went to a Mexican in Broad Beach for dinner. Had Margarita and Mai Tais - Linda ordered one but didn't realise it had rum in it so couldn't drink it - Flamin Gallah!
Went to a bar called Titanium, really liked it in there. Linz - you'd like the toilets! Dressing tables, sofas and chandeliers. Lots of Kiwis there and rugby players.... didn't want to leave! Melbas was the next stop - Darren had given us free entry passes but we still had to queue. Here is where I taught Linda and Paul the art of skank spotting.... and where the tequila started!!!
Ended up in a place called Cocktails & Dreams which was your standard crappy nightclub, had four club stamps on my arm by this point - not pretty! See photo! Pal and I continued with the tequila. very very drunk, so joined the skanks on the dance floor. and gave them a run for their money! Haven't laughed so much in ages!
Got bored of this place and went to a place called Hollywood Showgirls.... yes it's a strip club, although pretty classy which was surprising! But as always free entry but expensive drinks and bad music...
Had New York Slice - Best pizza in the world! Was just so so good... walked back to apt along the beach which took ages but I didn't care, was having such a good night!
Day 39 - Sunday 2 September
Silverchair Concert Day!!!
Slept in... massive hangover as expected! Cooked a huge breakfast for us all (took ages though). Watched the end of Pirates of the Caribbean 3.... still not seen the beginning though! Basically did nothing all day, didn't even leave the apt!
Finally sorted ourselves out around 4pm and started drinking, heir of the dog! Painted my nails too. Went to Moo Moos for pre-concert drinks, met Richard there (Pauls friend and band mate). Had a Moijito whilst Paul enjoyed his rather masculine (hee hee) Singapore Sling. The bar tender was really friendly and had been to the gig in Brisbane a couple of days before.
Silverchair were awesome, best gig I've seen in some time. We had a great spot too, even though we were towards the back you could see them really clearly. Grabbed a bite to eat in between Silverchair and Powderfinger, Linda had a mustard fight with herself, resulting in mustard covered boots, jeans and top! Powderfinger were ok, but not as good as Silverchair! Linda wasn't feeling to well so when it finished we took the monorail back to broad beach and got a taxi to the apt. Monorail, monorail, monorail! When we got back Linda went to bed and Paul and I sat an chatted.... putting the world to rights and watching Rugby til 3am.
Day 40 - Monday 3 September
Checked out around 10am - first time I've been called by reception asking me to chcek out... hee hee!
First stop Fingal, walked up the hill with our fish and chips and watched the dolphins and whales playing. It was really beautiful and quiet up there, could see for miles around. Watched the surfers in the bay too, looked like they were being filmed. There was some filming going on down on the beach too, looked like a promo ad for Gold Coast or something, really cheesey!
Left Paul and drove to Byron Bay, went straight up the lighthouse could see loads from there. Saw more whales from there too, must be migrating back south. Took few photos and bought a souvenir or two. Checked in to hostel, which was in town and fell asleep as soon as I sat on it. Woke up and went to a really cool pizza place, had pineapple & Pepperoni!
There were 3 irish girls staying next door, and they were sat chatting when we got back. Two english guys (John and Eddie) joined us too, they'd been living in Sydney for nearly a year and were soon going home. Had the debate on whether or not famous people deserved to be in the public eye and media as much as they are.... always a hot subject for some people! Luckily John and I managed to stay out of the worst of it and chatted about world cup, went to bed around 2am.
Day 41 - Tuesday 4 September
Only stayed in Byron the one night, had planned a couple but the weather wasn't great. So we had brekkie and explored the shops (it was raining so couldn't sit on the beach... what else is a girl to do)!
Had to drive through surfers to pick up a couple of tops that she'd left behind. Lucky we did stop, because Linda's car wasn't running properly. So we called out the RACQ, who filled up her water and put some tape around her spark plug - the insulation had worn out. We were back in Brisbane by 6pm. Paul cooked up a big feed, bbq steak with his famous mushroom sauce.
Day 42 - Wednesday 5 September
Today's plan was to go up to Australia Zoo, but it was raining really heavy so instead we had a lazy morning, consisting of eating and watching crappy Oz tv. By the time we left the house it was about 1pm, so we drove to the shopping centre near Linda's called Carindale. Had a jacket spud... mmmm! Bought a really cute billabong dress in the sale, some shorts and souvenirs. Had thai for dinner, it just wasnt the same as in thailand though! Went to bed early.
Next stop - Cairns!
