Hey everyone from Wellington, NZ- south of the north island. I just finished up playing in an ultimate frisbee tournament over the weekend here in Wellington. I played with a team from Auckland and I really had a good time playing although the gayle force winds were hard to contend with. Difficult to throw a frisbee in strong winds like that. I hadn't played in an ultimate tournament since November, so I was glad to get back out on the field, but I was sore and tired afterwards! This was just a casual tournament so the main objective was fun! The fields were very close to Wellington's airport, so every few minutes there was a deafening take-off! Ultimate frisbee friends: you can end games here in NZ mid-point! That's a crime against humanity! I was playing in a game at the tournament this past weekend and the game was tied and they called the game mid-point! Ah!
Before coming to Wellington, my friend Peter and I traveled to the north of the north island. We went up to Cape Reinga, where the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean collide. You can really see where they meet as there are big waves crashing against one another. We also went to a few small towns along the way and saw some nice beaches along some of the bays. We had a really good time exploring the north country.
Peter and I explored Wellington the day before the tournament started and took the cable car up to a great overlook of the city. We were really lucky to get out and do that on nice day as the weather in Welly can be quite dreadful at times! They call it the Chicago of NZ! We also visited the city's beautiful botanic garden and the rose garden full of sweet smells.
Peter left yesterady to go back to Auckland while I am making my way southward towards the south island where there is supposed to be some really amazing, jaw-dropping spots down there. I'm really looking forward to exploring down there.
