Leg 2 - The Cape of Storms. Rio to Cape Town
Cape Town, South Africa
We've won! We've won! Leg 2 from Rio to Cape Town, Team GREAT Britain win with less than a nautical mile between them and 2nd place Derry. This is for line honours. After the shinanigans of LMAX and Qingdao having to start late because of the grounding and rope around the prop (you couldn't make this stuff up!) the race has been run on a time completed basis so LMAX or Qingdao could still claim a podium place when they finish. We'll have to wait until Sunday afternoon to find out. Still, line honours are ours come what may! I'm so proud of the team. They had to dig deep at times with 50kt winds, big seas, cold weather and being in frustrating wind holes and shadows at times.
Hopefully they've got a bit of sleep and are now enjoying a cold beer or two with the full hospitality of Cape Town at their disposal.
Oh and by the way, today is the anniversary of Trafalgar Day. GREAT Britain is carrying a small piece of HMS Victory with her for luck. Meant to be I say!
