hey guys, flew down south, 2hr skanky plane journey coz was the cheapest of the cheap airlines! But got into Ho Chi Mingh City at about 7pm ish, seriously thought id lost my baggage coz everyone else on my flight had got theres and b*****ed off but i was stood there like an idiot hoping it woudl suddenly appear on the baggage conveyorbelt! it did after a bit of a secret panic..lol. Met up with Beth who is on her 2 year travels round the world and got taxi into Ho Chi itself. was crazy busy just like Hanoi only much more modern and way more backpackers and lotsa bars and places to see and eat and drink! yay! Found a cheapy hostel...no air con but the fan will do! Then went out at bout 9pm to find some dinner and some friends! lol. Found a western restaurant (whoop! well it has been 4 weeks of rice!) and ordered chicken fajitas..thinking it would be chicken in a wrap...but no, wheatever u think ur gonna get served in vietnam is never nething like waht u imagine...so my choicken fajitas came out as chicken pieces wrapped in lettuce! hmmm. LOL. Anyways found a cool backapackers bar and Beth and I got a few Saigon beers and chatted to a few peeps, was a laugh and am enjoying the freedom of independent traveling now.
Sunday we got up at 7am eager to sort something out for the week coz Im only here with Beth for a week :( neways we looked round some tour places and booked onto a few overnight buses etc to explore southern Vietnam. Later on that morn we walked to Reunification Palace, which is the cool building in the piccy above! Then took short walk to War Remnants museaum across the street, was quite disrturbing - loads of photos of War victims, vietnamese and american soldiers..really graphic and horrific to be honest :( but really good to see nonetheless. Met tonnes of other travellors here too, seems theres more young ppl to meet here down south compared to up north which is cool. 3 ozzy guys who were at the war museum told us about a cool market near to the museum and so we joined them for a bit of shopping and stayed there til eve, when the night food market came to life...was so cool..tonnes of little street market food stalls selling delicious vietnamese food and bbq fish and meats..was soo cool! so the 3 guys and me and beth ordered tonnes of different dishes and all shared the bill at the end. was nice to try lots of different things. Had to leave at 7.30 to get our bags from the hostel to catch the overnight bus at 8pm to get to Nha Trang (10hr drive!!). The 3 ozzys were also planning on coming to Nha Trang but wimped out of the overnight bus and were gonna fly in the morn and arrive in Nha Trang at 9am! LAzeee!
So Just arrived in Nha Trang at 6 in the morning..shattered coz didnt get much sleep on the bus, altho was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the bus was...well for vietnamese standards! lol. Found a cheapy hostel that would actually accept us at 6am and dumped our stuff showered and went for some noodles for breakfast...weird lumps of meat and spice in it, but was ok if u dodged that with ur chopsticks. lol. cant really go wrong for 30p!! Headed for the beach now to catch up with the 3 ozzys 4 some snorkelling and scuba diving. Theres lots of backpackers here too so probs head out this eve for some drinks and meet some other peeps. Will update soon, missing you lots and lots, mellyxxx
