After a lovely flight flying business class and eating yummy food and drinking champagne we arrived in Miami at 3.10pm local time. We had to take 3 trains to get to the nearest station to where we were staying which surprisingly only took about an hour. However, once off the train Jim reckoned the walk to the hostel would be straight forward. 30 minutes later in sweltering heat we decided to get a taxi and found out we were still 2.5 miles away from where we wanted to be. Jim had booked us in to stay at Hollywood Beach hostel which was right on North Beach in Miami which we eventually arrived to at 6.15pm! We shared a mixed dorm with 4 others and a girls only dorm was literally located off ours. 12 people and 1 bathroom wasn't looking good but actually turned out to be ok. We said hello to a couple of people staying in the hostel and when i went back to the room whilst Jim was faffing at reception got speaking to a German girl who had just finished an internship in the US and was about to do some travelling. She was off to NY on saturday. Also got chatting to an American guy in our room who was leaving the next day to head to Fort Lauderdale to find work. He had been travelling South America and had just returned from Colombia. After to we showered we walked along the beach front and stopped at a bar playing music asked for 2 beers and was quickly persuaded to get a bucket of beers which was 5 beers for $14. The bar was quite lively all with local people. We were told that some live music was going to start and we were looking forward to it. Beers, beach and live music...bliss! A young guy came on stage with his guitar and started playing. He was awesome and drew a crowd of people outside the bar singing and dancing along. We gave him $2 and he came over and thanked us and asked where we were from. He said he always wanted to visit London and pointed to a guy sitting at the bar and said he had been to London and visited La Louvre. The guy took the piss and said yeh i have visited London but thats in Paris. He then said that the guy had eaten a picnic under the eiffel tower and was so surprised and in awe that he had done that. I remember Me and Jess doing that when we went. Crazy that this guy dreamed of doing this but to us Paris is just an hour away. Anyway, we left the bar and went to find something to eat. Stopped off at a taco bar and ate some yum tacos and burritos. At about 11pm we decided to go back to the dorm and try to sleep as we needed to be up at 7am to get the airport to catch out flight to Cartagena, Colombia. We had bunk beds and had a bed each but decided to sleep in the same one. Jim didn't mind as we had air con which meant he wouldn't get too hot. We both slept quite well except the other people in the room were quite noisey. We didnt mind tho as thats what u get when u share a dorm.
