Starting out in Delhi, India
Since moving out of the house in mid-July and moving into my mums for the summer holidays and then into a caravan park so that the kids could go to school for a few weeks, the trip of a life time has taken off and we are in Delhi, India.
Sometimes it's difficult to describe something you're seeing to someone else and that's when a child's perspective is needed and I'll never forgot when we first lay eyes on Delhi, Luca leaned over to me and whispered "I think this is where they filmed WALL-E", if you have seen the film you would understand what we were looking at.
The anxiety has past and we are loving being taken round Delhi in our prearranged private tour and can't stop smiling at the thought of having another 11 months of travelling. Edwina sniggers at my preparation but she's had to admit that sometimes being well organised has it big advantages. Our driver 'Babau' is with us of three weeks and will be arranging local guides in each stop to show us around, today is Vivek originally from Punjab region and living in Delhi for the last 5 years although this didn't show in his breadth of knowledge of Delhi.
Delhi is an incredibly vibrant, crazy, beeping, multicultural and religious place. The sights and sounds are just amazing. The children are taking it all in and not fazed by anything, asking lots of questions and buzzing with excitement. Delhi is like on open zoo in 2 days we have seen elephants, monkeys, cows, goats, horses, dogs and parakeets all interweaving with the chaotic Delhi traffic full of bikes, Rickshaws, Trucks, cars.
Sunday we have been lucky enough to encounter National Tourism Day so all sites free on entry, as a family we felt like a tourism attraction ourselves with lots of locals coming up and asking if they could take photos of our very fair completions and light hair colour (it is seen as good luck). Once again water of a ducks back, dad and mum step aside and leave it to the kids to smile, I'm sure we could have made a few rupees.
Highlights of Delhi, a rickshaw around old Delhi and Mahatma Gandhi cremation site.
Next stop Agra……..
