Max & Dean Year Out 05/06
Hello all,
So - after about a squillion hours on a coach over the last few days - we're finally back on the coast in Townsville. Blimey - that was hard work. The scenery was pretty amazing though - so I'm glad that we went inland. Red mud, so much green and endless skies. We saw the most amazing sunrises and sunsets. Would have been much better with our own transport mind you - but as we pretty much had the coaches to ourselves - we could stretch out and make ourselves comfortable. Our last stop in the outback was a place called Mount Isa - a huge mining town / city. Apparently one of the biggest cities in the world.....the main road is 180k long or something ridiculous like that. The city covers an area the size of Switzerland - maybe not so surprising as Australia is HUGE!! We expected to be able to see right into the chasm from the city lookout - but no such luck. It was actually nice to be back in accommodation with other backpackers - as Mnt Isa is a connection to the East Coast and the NT. We've been staying in motels the past week - in places where all the shops/pubs close by 8pm!
Not sure about our next stop - may go south to the Whitsundays and double back to Cairns - or direct to Cairns. Been moving around so much - that to stop for more than 36hrs - will be a luxury. Take care y'all - xxx
