we just been to Goat island which is about 80-90k south from us, we planned to scuba dive but water was a bit cold but never mind we decided to give the glass bottom boat a try and suprisingly it was cool, got to see loads of big fish and the woman guiding us along told us info etc, as you do i asked about big fish sharks and so on, the lady replied by saying yes great whites have been spotted only once thou (thats me not scuba diving then), also she informed us only a few weeks ago about 3 snorkelers doing there stuff when a pod of orcas (killer whales) just glided straight past, now thats amazing to see from a boat but in the water i would have shat my self to put it in words, they are supposed to be real friendly and only agressive if threatened, i think they are amazing to see in their natural habitat, also in whangarei about a year ago there was a case of 3-4 lifeguards training about 1 mile out to see when a great white was cutting about when a group of dolphins surrounded them protecting them from the shark, it made world news i was told.
The whales and dolphins are regular guests around the harbour and to see them before i leave new zealand would be amazing, i hope so (on a boat that is), so back to Goat island there is loads of scuba to do even for novices, the island its self aint got no goats on it but at one point had loads so i was informed, we hoping for some sunny weather for christmas day because its been a bit wet the past week, never mind 1 more day for christmas and totally looking forward to it,
merry christmas and new year all, see ya's.
