Hey all!
Sorry about the dearth of posts...I think I just get lazy and am anxious when I sit around a computer cafe for too long. Anyway...
So! I checked out Uruguay for a couple of days. I took a catamaran over the Rio de la Plata to a small town called Colonia del Sacramento, that was just beautiful and reminded me of Italy. Nice sunset, cobbled streets, even a lighthouse (although I banged my head pretty badly on the door going up). I ate dinner on the waterfront and watched the sunset...very piola (chill). Headed over to Montevideo the day after, which is like Buenos Aires but nothing is open and it´s not as cool. Did have a beach on the far side of town that I took full advantage of, though.
Uruguay is kind of an interesting country (in that it´s so...unheard of). I was talking to an Argentine about it, and he said that the difference between Argentina and Uruguay is that Argentines care more about being Argentine (their flags are really similar). He did say though, that Chileans are even more nationalist than Argentina. Go figure.
So yesterday I took the catamaran back and got on a very long bus up north here to Puerto Iguazu, on the border of Brazil and Paraguay. The town´s not that interesting, but what is is the huge Iguazu waterfalls that are just down the road. They´re the biggest in South America, and pretty cool (so I hear). I´m going out to the park to check them out tomorrow. Half of them are in Brazil, and half in Argentina, so I hope to see both sides, although I lack a Brazilian visa. Maybe I can just get in for a day...
But the big thing for me so far is the hostel here. It´s huge, having 200 people in it, and has--get this--a pool. It is impossible to describe the feeling of peeling out of my disgusting bus clothes and diving in to cool water. Apparently everywhere has a pool here--I`ve arrived in the tropics.
Well, those are my thoughts for now...a note about the pictures (or lack thereof). I still have my camera--knock on wood--but I might have lost the cable connecting it to the computer. I need to do a search of my huge backpack sometime. Rest assured, you will all get the boring slideshow when I get back home though (knock on wood again).
That´s all for now. Much love to all!
