The next 2 days we spent in Pakse as it has good transport links going north. Pakse is very similar to a small french town surrounded by Laos countryside.
We left Champassak and took the local (packed to the rims) bus with the locals, arriving in Pakse 30 minutes later and checked into our guesthouse. We spent the morning exploring Pakse and Matt decided Gem's birthday present would be a massage at the former palace now a hotel. We had a couple of beers and went in to have a traditional Laos massage. It was really good, not what either of us expected, we were in the same room and it was like a mix between yoga and massage. Great for our backs after the bike riding in Champasak. A really nice afternoon (thanks Matt).
Late that afternoon/evening we went to a highly recommended rooftop restaurant at the Pakse Hotel called Panarama Restaraunt. Aptly named as it offers a 360 degree view of Pakse, helping us to realise how pretty the surroundings are with the golden buddha on the hillside and surrounding river and mountains. A gorgeous view and the food was even nicer. This was a present from Lorna, thanks sweety, duck and steak were scrumptuous!
We spent the next day chilling - which usually means a day off and updating blog etc. We booked our tickets to Savannakhet which is the halfway point from Pakse to the capital, Vientiane. Matt read about a very cheap bowling alley so we had a couple of games in the afternoon before drinking in some bars on the riverside and meeting some locals, always good fun!
We leave early in the morning for Savannakhet so another sensible early night!
