Mystery Island - 5th January 2011
Today we arrived, albeit in unfavourable weather conditions, at Mystery Island. Mystery Island is a tiny, uninhabited island with simple facilities built for the regular cruise passengers and an airstrip in the middle of the jungle - a remnant of World War II. Locals from a nearby island come across for the day to welcome visitors and sell their various wares, but nobody actually lives here, because the locals believe that it is haunted at night.
The weather was overcast and a bit rainy but we went across after breakfast and wandered around. The island is very small - you can walk a lap of it in around 30 minutes - but the beautiful beach, crystal waters and lush trees and plants make you want to run away and move there to live. The beach is covered in tiny hermit crabs that wander around until spooked by someone walking by and ducking inside their shells.
We went for a bit of a walk around and looked at the gorgeous sights, then sat relaxing on the beach for a little bit before returning to the ship for lunch.
The afternoon on board was relaxing, as always. After dinner we went and sat in the casino waiting for a show to start in the nearby theatre, so I had a bit of a play on the roulette table. I looked up about half an hour later and Matt had disappeared, so I collected my winnings (I'd done pretty well!) and went to find him. He was in bed feeling sick, so we didn't go to the show, and just watched some tv in bed.
Later, I couldn't sleep so I headed back out to the casino for another flutter. I didn't fare as well on roulette this time, so I went and played my much-loved game of poker. I sat and wavered up and down a little for about an hour, before winning a pretty big hand and slowly climbing my way up. Before I knew it, it was 1am and we were all looking very weary, so we said our goodnights and retired for the night. I ended up quite substantially ahead in the $dollar department, so I'm stoked.
Another great day :)
