We arrived in Singapore into the quiestest airports we have ever been to! We needed to get to Geyling district so we managed to get on the next shuttle bus which was cheap and dropped us right outside our hotel. We checked in and our room was small and clean - perfect for our short stay! Geyling was just outside the city and renound for being the red light district! Great! haha We headed out for some tea and found a nice little dim sum restaurant were the food was amazing. We couldnt believe we didnt have anything like this in China! We had small plates with dumplings, kale in galic sauce mmm! We also had braised pork belly which you wrap in a steamed bun which Matty loved!! It was probably the nicest food we have had the whole trip! After dinner we headed back and got an early night so we were up nice and early to explore the city! When we got back to the hotel all along the streets outside were prostitutes and pimps! There must have been about 20 of them and they were there all night!
The next morning we were up early and got onto one of the local buses into the city. We got off the bus at Raffles city shopping centre and had a look around and grabbed something to eat. Our first impressions of Singapore were that it was very modern and americanised and felt like a chinese Miami! It was very clean and modern and obs As we were only here for one day we decided to be real tourists and get on a hop on - hop off sightseeing tour bus to try and see as much as we could in one day! We "hopped on and off" at different places all day - the grand prix was on the following week so there was loads going on in preparation! Singapore was similair to Hong Kong in the way there was loads of shopping to do and posh designer shops on every corner! We decided to spend a few hours in the Botanical gardens in the afternoon which was really nice. There was a huge lake full of hundreds of turtles and there were orchid gardens it was a really nice place and free to visit! Once it started getting dark we hopped back on the last bus and got off at Raffles Hotel for a Singapore Sling! The hotel was beautiful and really posh! We sneaked through as we thought we wern't allowed in and we wern't exactly dressed up! We passed shops and restaurants in the hotel and we realised its fine to walk through it wasnt just for residents! We found a courtyard bar near the centre of the hotel were we sat and had a drink! - a very expensive one! The waiter told us that we had just missed Wills and Kate - they had just left at 3pm this afternoon! Gutted! He said everywhere they went their security had to make sure there was nobody withing 20m of them! He told us they were flying to Kuala Lumpur and thats were we were heading the next day! We finished our drinks and had a few pictures taken before heading to the nearest cash machine! haha! We then wandered around and tried to find a sky bar - which we found but it wasnt as high as we thought! The views were nice anyway so we took some pictures and left before going back on the bus to Geyling. We loved the Dim Sum so much we went back again and had our tea there before going back to our hotel for a few drinks!
The next morning we had to fly to Kuala Lumpur so we packed up our things and ordered a taxi to the airport! Once we were checked in we grabbed a McDonalds and boarded the plane. It was only a short flight and we landed in Kuala Lumpur just after before 1pm. The airport was sooooo busy and we had to que for a good hour before getting through immigration. The airport we had landed in was the budget airling airport and was seprate to the main airport. It was about an hour away from the city so we had to find a way to get there. There was people selling tickets for buses and trains but decided to just get a taxi for not much more money! We had to que at a booth for a ticket and then walk to the taxi que which had hundreds of people in. Everybody must have had the same idea! Oh well there was nothing we could do but que! After about an hour of queing in the heat and stopping people from pushing in we were finally in the taxi and on our way. We got a glimpse of the twin towers on the way which was cool! It took about 1 1/2 hours to get into the city and the taxi driver dropped us in China town and told us it was a one way street and we were only 5 minutes from our hotel! Ok? So we got out and started looking for the hotel lugging around our backpacks. It turned out to be a nice walk through China town and after stopping and asking a few people we eventually found our guesthouse. Our room was only small with wobbly bunk beds but it was clean and smelt like fresh washing mmm! We headed out for some tea and ended up in a Reggae bar which seemed to be quite popular with backpackers. It was happy hour so we had a few coronas with our tea!
The next morning we were up and out early to explore the city so we spotted the twin towers in the distance and decided to just walk in the direction of them hoping to stumble across them! After a while we eventually did. There was a huge park were Kate and Wills were the day before noooo!! It had amazing views of the towers from underneath. We took some pictures and grabbed a drink in starbucks! We walked into a huge shopping centre under the towers and wandered through until we came out the other side. We went down underneath the towers and asked if we could go up them. The security guard told us that in order to go up the towers you had to arrive at 7am in the morning and join a que and even then you are not guarenteed a ticket to go up as they only sell so many per day - bit strange!! Never mind! We took some more pictures before heading back to our guesthouse and checking out the Indian temple next to were we were staying. It was amazing and so colourful! We then went for some tea in China town before going back to the Reggae bar were we spent the rest of the night drinking and partying with a lot of random Malaysian and Australian people. It was such a funny night!
The next morning we were dying! After hardly any sleep and such a bad hangover - to make it worse the bathrooms were out of use - even the toilet! The receptionist was knocking on our door to make sure we would check out on time but we felt so bad we tried to get more sleep and just pretended we had food poisoning when we checked out! haha They felt sorry for us then and were really nice asking if we needed anything while we sat in the common room on the bean bags watching a film!! haha We booked a taxi as we were flying to Bali that afternoon. After another hour drive we arrived back in the airport to find out our flight was delayed - but for only a few hours which wasnt too bad! We decided to try a Nasi Lemak - the well known Malaysian dish, which turned out to be horrible! It was like anchovie flavoured curry sauce with rice peanuts, chicken and a fried egg! Not very nice! We waited for our flight and weirdly they gave out McChicken sandwiches and bottles of water as the flight was delayed! Yess!! haha We boarded the flight around 9pm - Bali here we come!!
