Hi Mark & Denise
Just got connected to the internet at home hopefully get a home e-mail address tomorrow. Peg & Jim's party went well. we sat down 35 adutls plus Finlay - Declane - Harriott and Adele's twins - it was some day I think everyone enjoyed it. Got a phone call from Bill on Monday night to say that Jean had to be taken into hospital. When they ran tests on her she had had a mild heart problem on the Friday she put it down to intergestion. Just heard from Peg that Jean is having an angiogram tomorrow then hopefully home within the next few days depending on what they find. i spent about 2 - 3 houes this morning looking through your photos and your commentary on where and what you've done. All that action and excitement there will be no stopping you, I expect in the back of your minds you are starting to make a list out of where you are going to go to on your next trip when this one is over.
Anyway take care of each other and i know you are enjoying everything that is around you.
Love Larry & Ursula xx

Sent you an email earlier this week - hope you pick it up. I always forget about this method of writing but just back from Ethiopia. All that hype from the Foreign Office about "too dangerous, don't go there, kidnappings, demonstrations and stuff" all a load of b....s/rubbish. Never met such amazing people. Poor, yes; they walk up to 38 kilometers to market and back just to sell 5 eggs or a bundle of wood. In the market places, way down the Rift Valley, we had people touching our skin and feeling our hair and then going into peels of laughter as they had never seen white skin before. Rounding a corner of a tiny, dusty track to be jumped out on by a dozen or so naked tribesmen with spears and full body paint was a bit daunting at first but the Ethiopian friend driving us around spoke their language and we were welcomed into their villages of mud/straw huts and offered ganga, coffee, taj (local beer made of barley and with half the barley field still in it - yuk). Vast open, dry spaces in the south towards the Kenyan border where the rift valley is 40 Ks across. Then, coffee and banana plantations, mangoes, papaya, melons etc. We tracked through forests full of elephant and zebra - camping by a river one night was a bit scary when 50 elephants came down to drink at 4 in the morning all roaring and trumpetting only 25 yards from our tent! We visited the original rastafarian village, dreadlocks still in vogue, ganga (cannabis) everywhere and the chief of Rastafaria dressed in yellow with a bright yellow crocheted beret and red painted shoes shook our hands for 20 minutes babbling on about Haile Selasie being God and how they needed money!
If anyone is interested in making a trip of a lifetime to Ethiopia, "cradle of humankind", get in touch with me. I can put you in touch with the best guide in the world.
Have just caught up with all your latest photos. Can't get over the beard! And all those incredible places you are tramping over. New Zealand sounds like the most beautiful so far - and so much more to come! Let me know when you move on, can't remember how long you're in Oz.
Bestest love Gretta

G'day Denise and Mark; great photos. Looking forward to seeing you both when you come to New South Wales. Maureen says you may be going to visit her and Ray at their place near Bathurst; I'll be there! Even if I have to plead with my boss to let me have some time off if he's got me rostered on. What do you think of Australia so far?
Take good care, see you soon.

Hiya Denise & Mark. Greetings from Farnham - I'm sure you're missing the biting north-easterly wind and snow flurries here at the moment! The photos are great, what a good way of keeping in touch. Hope you are able to catch up with the Shackses while you are in Oz, I know they would love to see you both. Have a great time and hope to see you B42 long when you return. All the best, Mick & Lesley.
