The first part of our trip (the islands) is now over and we have embarked on the next part which takes us through Cambodia. Looking back over the past 3 weeks we have had a fun and relaxing time, both in equal measures. I can also see a pattern that has emerged and that is we have both been raising our tolerance levels, to pretty much everything. Our stomachs have become more tolerant to spicy food, our skin has become more tolerant to the humidity and sun, our sense of smell has become more tolerant to the wide array of scents you can experience on one strip of road and we have learned to tolerate many types of creatures living within our space (have actually become obsessed with ants and developed a new found respect when I witnessed 2 dozen of the little blighters carry a half dead roach up the side of the walls). Now it is time to test our tolerance to other individuals. Our tour group has 15 people in it including us and 1 more if you include the group leader, Dino. So far, we are pleased to report that it is a really nice group of people. We have a few from Canada, 2 from Australia and the others all come from UK and Ireland. Last night was our meet up in Bangkok where we all went out for a meal afterwards and a few drinks. Mark and I were not the first to go home but we were not the last, a few of the younger members in the group stayed out….what has happened to me!! Today started at 7am and it is only now 6pm that we are able to sit and relax in the guest house. Not sure what I was expecting but the border crossing from Thailand to Cambodia was an experience and a half. You have to walk over the border and as such long queues form and with only one desk for foreign passports this was a long queue. The estimated wait time (in the midday sun) was around 2-3 hours!!! Crazy. After a bit of discussion we all agreed to go 'VIP' Have you ever heard such a thing, VIP your way through the border. Its clearly a scam but at £6 ($10) and the promise of getting over the border in 30 minutes we were all unanimous in agreeing to do it. Meanwhile our bags were being taken over the border by a porter pulling a rickety old horse cart. After more photos and scanning of finger prints we finally made it. Then it was another 2 bus changes to reach our destination… but we made it!
