Now here's something you don't say every day: Today I tripped over some elephant dung - sounds a bit bonkers, but you should see the stuff it's huge! Why? you may as - well I've been bush camping in the Okavango Delta in Botswana. The delta is a series of small islands and marsh lands connected by numerous water channels, and the only way to get around is by boat. The water ways are teaming with crocs and hippos, so you have to becareful not to enter the water - if you value your limbs that is.
Our group was taken to a remote island by Polers - a man with a canoe and a long stick - ooh errr!! And it was on this island that we went for a dawn game/bush walk - hence the earlier reference to the elephant parcel.
Later the Polers took us on a sunset cruise, and we got to see a family of hippos frolicking around in the river. We were literally 500m away (as close as you can get without it becoming too dangerous - seeing as the hippo is the biggest man killer in Africa - not bad for a vegetarian.) But to see the hippos yawning and snortin water, and bobbing keeping only their ears above water, with the sun setting in the background - can't think of a better view than that - for now that is!
