So my last experience of Canada was in the province of Quebec. So as all of my journeys seem to start, it was with a hangover!!!
I knew as soon as I had crossed the border into Quebec as this is a French speaking province and the signs were only in French, so the language skills needed to be dragged out of the recesses of my brain and put to use to get around!!
Montreal is one of the older cities of Canada and is a large area and also looks slightly more European than other provinces, lots of one way systems, which is bloody confusing and older buildings.
So I was staying with one of my brother's friends, Jimmy who had moved to Montreal over 4 years ago and lives with his girlfriend in Montreal. I managed to find their home ok, except that I had joined their one way street at the wrong place so ended up abandoning the car and walking the rest of the way!!!
I stayed in Montreal for about 5 days, I spent this time walking around for miles, along the house lined roads, which have iron stairways going up to the flats and houses, lovely little roads, through the old part of Montreal and up Mont Royal, which is supposed to be a mountain in the city (it's more of a hill, but they are quite proud of their mountain!!) and it was all lovely and lots to see.
The weather had dropped a lot by now and the wind made everything so much colder, winter is fast approaching and since the clocks changed, its dark before 5 now!!
I left Montreal on Saturday, guess what, with a hangover!!! I headed to Quebec City where I was couch surfing with a guy who lived just outside the city.
Again, pleasant experience with the couch surfing, he was an officer in the Canadian Army and also knew a lot about Quebec City. I was there for 2 nights and each day, he would park at the citadel which looks out over the city and go for a walk and a tour around. I also experience poutin with smoked meat here, its chips, with gravy and cheese and comes from Quebec, very nice!!
While also in Quebec I experienced a lot of snow, more than the time I went camping and hand to clear the car ready for my travels into the US!
Quebec was a lovely city, very old again, with a lot of history of wars and battles. My brothers would of loved the citadel, perfect place to hid in when the zombies attack, high walls and fortified for attacks, perfect view points and cannons all over the place!!
So this was my final visit for Canada and as far East as I was going to be able to make it, I have loved my time here, I have met some awesome people and seen some beautiful places and landscapes and there is still so much to see and do and come back for. Thank you to everyone I met on the way who added to my experience of Canada and with the exception of the Edmonton farm which can just f*** off, I wish everyone the best and hopefully see you in the future, either back in Canada or over in the UK if you come visit!!
