Had a good time in Bergen. Went to fish markets for lunch with some of the other people from the tour. We also had some other people join the tour. Our guide has turned out to be really good. He still gets a bit confused with the nationalities of the Americans - the Chinese ones in particular who have never set foot in China but has managed to identify the New Yorkers as Americans.
We have recruited a new Angel - Lola from Texas or as the guide thinks Lola from Kenya. It is only temporary as she leaves us in Stockholm . She passed her laughing initiation test with flying colours. When we told her we were going to clean our teeth it turned out she thought we all had dentures and by "cleaning" she thought it meant we had to take them out. English is a funny language - when we changed to brushing our teeth it became different.
We had limited time for lunch in Bergen as the hotel did not have our rooms ready. We staged a mini revolt and waited until we had all finished our fish lunch before going back to the bus. There were about 10 of us (more than half) so we figured they would not leave on the city tour without us -we were right!
Dinner saw us walking the streets trying to find a menu we could understand. Lola had spring rolls which looked like nothing we had seen before, Trish had chicken soup which was huge, Wendy had Thai chicken curry. Pam (believe it or not) was the most adventurous having Rudolfsuppe - which was reindeer soup with wild mushrooms and a pate with berries on the side. She will never hear Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer again without thinking of that soup.
The spectacular scenery continued through Voss to Stalheim. AND the weather has been superb. The guide reckons he has never had such good weather.
Yesterday we went on a ferry ride along the Naeroyfijord and then up Flam railway. The pictures will show you more than "words".
Wendy purchased the most beautiful cape before we got on the ferry. Well rather Salvatore the guide bought it and got her a 30% discount. We had to be very careful they did not suspect it was for her so she and Pam put on some Viking hats swords, axes and shields and did a photo shoot as a distraction.
That night our dinner was a set menu of shrimp soup, fish and chocolate mousse. Not sure if it was the soup or the roll Trish had during the day but she became very ill during the night. Seems to be on the mend but was a long 3.5hours back to Oslo this morning for her.
Will post this while we can and do photos soon.
Hopefully Trish will be back laughing soon
