Everything didn't go like in the movies in Guatemala. I was supposed to go to Tikal on my second day in Guatemala but I got unexpected visitor on my first night. Mr. diarrhea, my loyal traveling companion made a quick visit and we had quite a rough party in toilet all night long. I didn't have any energy to go to Tikal on next day and I just tried to charge my batteries and try to keep food inside me. Guatemala has literately been the s***tiest place so far and it would have been nice to have more time and give another change but I wanted to continue my trip.
I arrived to Belize City on 6th of Jan and I decided to take a boat to the Island called Caya Caulker. It took around one hour by speedboat to reach the Island. There lives just a thousand inhabitants and there are no paved roads or cars. I stayed in Caya Caulker for four nights and took it very easy. It was good to relax after being traveling a lot in past week and being sick. Weather was quite bad during my stay and it was cloudy and rained a bit everyday. There weren't so many things to do and you could walk around the Island in one hour. I had one of the nicest rooms ever and it was very simple with just a mattress and hammock but the view from my room was amazing.
On 11th I took a boat back to Belize City and from then a bus to Flores, Guatemala. From Flores I took a night bus to Guatemala City and arrived there at 5.20am. From Guatemala City I took a bus to San Salvador, El Salvador. I wanted to go to beach as fast as possible and the bus driver said I should hop off 20km before San Salvador and took a local bus down to coast. I didn't have any idea witch buses are heading south. I saw some local kids with surfboards and asked where they are going. They said that they are heading to Playa del Tunco and it's the best beach in El Salvador and there are some guesthouses.
I followed those kids and it was first 1-hour journey to one small town and then we changed a bus and it was 15mins more to the beach. I was smiling when I saw the Ocean. I stayed four nights in Tunco and I really liked that place. There were so many things to do and nice people around. I rented a surfboard for one day and tried but without success. Waves where way too big for me and I decided to change surfboard to body board. Tunco was so small that after two days you already knew everyone's face. Weather was perfect and sunsets were so beautiful.
On 15th of Jan I took a bus to San Salvador with four people that I met in Tunco. We arrived to San Salvador during the evening and then we looked for a hostel. We found basic hostel next to the bus station and we went together to see the city and had dinner and some drinks. Our bus leaved to Nicaragua on next morning at 5am and we slept less than four hours. We arrived to Managua at 5pm and my friends continued to Leon and I went to Granada with a Canadian couple I met in bus station. I will stay two nights in Granada and then I will go to Isla de Omepete for some days. Omepete is an Island inside the lake surrounding by two volcanoes. My last destination will be Costa Rica…
