Decisions, decisions! There are so many wonderful places to go, it's hard to choose! After much deliberation, decided to do a hike along the Little Lakes Valley Trail.
After driving up to 10,300ft, we set off. At that altitude, you get out of breath very quickly. A gentle slope or a few steps and you are struggling. But it was well worth the effort!
You walk past several beautiful lakes in the same valley, with spectacular views of rugged mountains in the distance. Mt Mills, Dade, Abbot and Bear Creek Spire, all over13,000ft. Lots of glacial activity has carved out a typical U-shaped valley. The lateral moraines are now topped by a chain of small lakes. (Sorry, the geography student in me always re-emerges when I'm in environments like this!)
It was a comparatively easy hike compared to the others we've done. Pretty flat, only climbing 400ft.
Met a couple of interesting people on the way. Americans are such gregarious
people, and once they find out you are English will keep you engaged in conversation for hours. It's hard to get away.
Another sunny day, but snow forecast for tomorrow! Let's hope we don't get snowed in!
